PICASSO @ THE MET

I caught this exhibit on its last day (to be more specific, its last hour!) on Sunday.

Though my visit was super rushed and the gallery was ridiculously crowded, the top portrait caught my eye. The colors are so luscious in person, I had to resist the urge to touch it. Inspired by Lucas Cranach II's Portrait of a Woman (1564), Picasso's version just makes me smile. I absolutely fell in love with it.

I have to admit. The techie in me finds this pretty "neat".

JACQUES HNIZDOVSKY

These undeniably adorable woodcuts give me butterflies. Well, that last one, the ram, is actually an etching, but I had to include it. It's amaaaaaaaaazing. 

I love how stylized they are – ruffled feathers become ornaments and shells take on intricate, tantalizing, geometric patterns. They're almost hypnotic!

Born in the Ukraine, Hnizdovsky moved to the U.S. in 1949. Most of the above works were completed in the 70s.
