...So this seemed appropriate today for various reasons. The image at top is supposed to represent "Scorpio."

These appeared as part of a "Zodiac" story for Vogue UK, photographed by Tim Gutt. Set designs by Shona Heath. Check it out (thanks Yellowtrace!)

I'LL BE WATCHING YOU

So what if I'm a few seasons too late? I still have to comment on this HILARIOUS piece of fashion by the one and only Karl Lagerfeld.

I sort of need this.

I probably wouldn't wear it, but I'd certainly be happy with little Karl propped up somewhere in my apartment.

Even his site makes me giggle.

Tee hee.

"Photography records the gamut of feelings written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and skies that man has inherited, and the wealth and confusion man has created. It is a major force in explaining man to man."

— Edward Steichen

RIP AMcQ

When I decided to start this blog, I wanted to make a conscious effort to avoid discussing fashion. I love clothes (what girl doesn't, really?), but to comment on it would imply that I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the crazy world we know as fashion. The fact is, I really don't. I like what I like, and sometimes that means polyester and scuffed boots.

But every once in a while, the line between art and fashion blurs to the point that I feel like I must say something.

Alexander McQueen died today.

No more umbrella hats. No more amazingly amorphic platform heels. He was an intensely creative spirit, that designed not just fashion, but wearable art. To call him an innovator is an understatement.

I chose to highlight some pieces from his hat collection that are simply divine. I could come up with a million different ways to describe that breathtaking butterfly hat at the top. But no words could do it justice really.

See some of his collections dating from the present back
to 2001, here.

COCO CHANEL

Photographed by Douglas Kirkland

"Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future."Coco Chanel

There have been a slew of great fashion films lately: Valentino, The Last Emperor , The September Issue, and my favorite of the three (that I just saw tonight), Coco Before Chanel

Her ground-breaking vision and uncompromising drive kept her working until she died in 1971. Incredible style, incredible spirit.

SEE IT.
