I  AM NOT A BIKER.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that. I prefer my own two feet over two wheels (or four) any day, and so would any pedestrians that get in my way.

But there's something so fantastic about this wooden bike by Chicago-based Lagomorph Design, that I'd gladly turn in my walking shoes.

...Hello? There's a bunny in front. Toto: move over. Pedestrians: watch out.

See more here.

AHHH!!

Not sure if I'm going to be able to make this tonight, but I'm feeling like I sort of NEED TO. A one-night pop-up shop of vintage, mid-century modernist pieces. Attention, Oakland! You must go! And maybe pick up a chair or two for me?? ;)

LET IT RAIN

By Swedish design studio Asshoff & BrogĂ„rd, 2009

I love raindrops. They find a way into my paintings, designs and doodles. So, when I came across this adorable idea, I had to share. Mmmight have to steal this idea for my next apartment.

See more of their work here.

KOREFE + THE DELI GARAGE

Chocolate sauce in a glue bottle?
Pasta in a screw box?
Truffle oil fit for the Tin Man?

Oh my.

German design agency, Korefe, created these INCREDIBLY LOVABLY CUTE YET MANLY (grrr) designs that I'm simply crazy about. They're for The Deli Garage, so Korefe reflected the company name by housing all of the products in packaging that you might find at your local Aamco.

Unappetizing? Who cares? Pass the honey please!

See more from Korefe here, and The Deli Garage here.

BAMBOOZLED

These are riiight up my alley. Too bad I don't have an iPhone, and have settled for the undisputedly inferior BlackBerry.

These laser engraved 100% bamboo iPhone cases made by Grove make quite a nice contrast when paired with the black, monolithic, ultra-modern phone design, don't you think? You can customize one (with your own artwork!!) or choose from the Artist Series.

See/buy here.

AND WHILE WE'RE
ON THE SUBJECT...

Based in Amsterdam and London, design studio Designerette has created this DELECTABLE porcelain tea set. It's an enlarged version of a miniature doll's tea set (!!) Big, fat rims. Chunky handles. Ginormous saucers. What's not to love??

Appropriately, they've named it Mini.

And so, it begs the question:
How old is too old to have a princess tea party?

Check out more of their work here.

ATYPYK

Silver and gold plated candy necklace.

I sort of REALLY want this.

Atypyk is a French design duo made up of Ivan Duval and Jean Sebastien Ides. They make wacky things.

Q: Why, what kinds of wacky things?

A: EVERYTHING. From kitchen magnets shaped like cockroaches (ew) to a tissue dispenser that resembles a magician's hat to banana-shaped non-slip bath stickers. I could list so much more, but you should probably check out their site for yourself. See if you can find the wooden solitaire game, complete with nails (so. wrong.)

JUST IN TIME FOR
THE HOLIDAYS...

So, I breezed through Bergdorf Goodman today to catch up on some shoe shopping (Yeeeah, right...A girl can dream, can't she?).

Anyway, on the home design floor (that's currently decked out like the South Pole), there's LOTS to feast the eyes on. Somehow, amidst the sea of gold leaf and winged cherubs, the above candles immediately caught my eye. Housed in an elegant black box are a set of five of these deliciously dark Memento Mori Skill Candles by D.L. & Company.

Memento Mori = "remember that you are mortal" in Latin.

The company itself touts itself as "Modern Alchemists and Purveyors of Curious Goods." Check them out for yourself here.

Also, check out their Rotten Luck Dice with Swarovski Crystals that are also pretty sweet.

THE CANDY SHOP: PAPABUBBLE x CAPPELLINI
Installation inside Cappellini Soho flagship store.
Wong and Lepage hired artisanal candy makers, Papabubble, to create a colorful and yummy candy shop within high-end Cappellini's red-walled furniture store. The result? Wanders and Newson chair-inspired candy, and lollipops that depict Wanders's face.

SMOKING MITTENS

TOBIAS WONG + JOSEE LEPAGE

Last night, I had the pleasure of checking out one of AIGA's Members Series....and discovered the wild and crazy world of Tobias Wong and Josee Lepage

Designers or artists? Who knows...they'd rather not be categorized anyway. The point is, they make beautiful, hilarious, conceptual, sarcastic, thought-provoking STUFF together, and that's all that matters.

Above are solo pieces as well collaborative ones.

SUGAR, SPICE AND
EVERYTHING NICE

How do you make the world's cutest doll even cuter? Put a Band-aid on its heart.

Dr. Romanelli teamed up with Sanrio to produce a line of Hello Kitties dubbed Anatomy.

Yes, those twisty cream-colored things are intestines.

I was sure there'd be rainbow-sprinkle-topped cupcakes in there too! And what's that brown thing? A whole potato???

HEFFER PITCHER

Yes, that's its real name.

This makes me want to go vegan. Or have a cookie.

You can buy one here (if you're so inclined).

FUNKTIONIDE / STEFAN ULRICH

Using artificial muscle technology, German designer Stefan Ulrich created the Funktionide. The device is an amorphic object that's designed to relieve a sense of loneliness.

Ulrich believes that in the future, humans will turn to robots to satisfy their emotional needs. The shape-changing object simulates breathing, reacts to human touch, and imitates human/animal movements.

You MUST view the above video. How strange!

"It's the end of the world, as we know it..."

DOOR HANGERS / EL AL ISRAEL AIRLINES

I'm not sure where these are supposed to be hung (they're done by El Al Israel Airlines, so are they supposed to be hung from a seat?), but I think they're the CUTEST THINGS EVER. I love the funny, whimsical, cut-out shapes. The type is, well, utterly perfect. It very much reminds me of the opening title sequence from Catch Me If You Can.

Take a look at other printed promo pieces for the airline (I'm guessing that these were all done in the 60s or thereabouts). I believe most, if not all, were designed by Dan Reisinger:

1 Poster
2 Another poster
3 YET another poster (I'm in love)
4 Playing Cards

Come on Jet Blue! Step up your game! :)

RON ARAD @ MOMA

Last night, I treated myself to something I haven't done in quite a while – I took advantage of MOMA's (Museum of Modern Art) First Fridays, where admission is free from 4-8pm. If you can stand the large crowd, it's totally worth it. I had previously read about the Ron Arad show that was currently being exhibited, so First Fridays seemed to be the perfect time to check it out.

Born in Tel Aviv in 1951, Arad wouldn't classify himself as solely an industrial designer. His creations bridge many types of design: industrial, graphic, architecture...the list goes on. His most recognizable designs perhaps, are his furniture designs.

The show at MOMA is simply a feast for the eyes. Part installation, part showroom–if you're not already familiar with his work, you'll definitely leave wanting to see more. Fluid lines that almost seem like liquid frozen in air, hilariously whimsical shapes–you'll find yourself wondering how in the world you can fit a giant stainless steel bulbous chair aptly named Thumbprint in your living room...because you HAVE to HAVE IT.

He's the definition of innovation. This show is a must-see, and it ends on October 19. So hurry up already!

QLOCKTWO

So, I can't decide if I think this clock design by Biergert & Funk is completely genius, or if it's just another testament to how lazy we humans can be.

I'm also not sure I care! I love it! Words illuminate, telling (by words, not numbers) the time. It comes in various languages and five color options.

Visit the site here.
