JACQUES HNIZDOVSKY

These undeniably adorable woodcuts give me butterflies. Well, that last one, the ram, is actually an etching, but I had to include it. It's amaaaaaaaaazing.

I love how stylized they are – ruffled feathers become ornaments and shells take on intricate, tantalizing, geometric patterns. They're almost hypnotic!

Born in the Ukraine, Hnizdovsky moved to the U.S. in 1949. Most of the above works were completed in the 70s.

See more of his work here.

  1. Hnizdovsky was a friend of my Grandpa and great-grandpa. I love when I encounter others who appreciate his amazing art. :)
