CHRISTIAN FAUR

Untitled 6500
2006
Hand cast encaustic crayons

Yes. C-r-a-y-o-n-s. Stacked vertically, like they'd appear in a Crayola box. Christian arranges them so that the tips of the crayons take on the role of a pixel. Gradations of color form skin tones, shadows, highlights, etc.

What I love are the specks of color that he creates with the brightly colored ones. I love the contrast it forms against the stark black and white image.

Perfection.

And again, I'm seeing a parallel. Strange, huh??

This is another favorite.
And check this one out. Using the same method, he creates images using individual strips of paper. Genius!
